Two 3rd's Equal 6 1st's

Depauw's race was last weekend, really nice weather, 70 degrees and sunny on Saturday. Got into an early break 8 miles into the 48 mile race. Sprinted way too early and botched it ending up 3rd. Here's the GPS file:
Sunday was the square crit of windy doom. It broke up a few minutes in and I got into a group of 7 with three Marion Riders and some great odds. The race was winding down and we saw one lap to go, seemingly out of nowhere. So we did the typical last lap gig...look at each other while someone takes a flyer that goes nowhere on the backside of the course. But, on the backside we caught the main field and figured we'd be finishing with them. In reality they were finishing, but we weren't the last lap was for them. So we sprinted through the field only to hear 'KEEP RIDING' once we began to catch our breath. We all assumed one lap to go...

So we do the whole sprinting thing again, except when we get to the line this time there's a card showing three laps to go. Now the entire group's really confused, and I'm off the back because I sprinted like an idiot. Thankfully the group let up a bit to let Illinois Tech guy and I who were off the back catch back on. I sat in for the majority of the three laps, on the last Marion attacked on the backside and I followed. I never was able to catch back on but I held on over the group through the last turn.
I was really really stoked at that point because I have never ever ever been second in any race, It was honestly a more exciting prospect than winning. I mean I've been 3rd a few times and 1st a few times more and at least a couple of each of the top ten places. But I've never been second in any race...needless to say it was going to be a big deal for me. That was until Mike Sherer blows past me with 200 m to go. Oh well, I'll hold on to my dream for 2nd for another day. Two wrongs don't make a right, but two 3rd's make me happy, and two wrights make an airplane.....hahahaha

Well, this week I have tons of work and this blog post was completed in record time (10 minutes!). So instead of a more creative posting here's some video of what I think is the coolest neo-Pro race out there:Montepaschi-Eroica
